O Car Rent rental rates include first-class insurance You do not need to purchase additional insurance to rent a car. The first-class policy included in the rate covers third-party liability and damage to the rental vehicle; the renter pays a per-incident excess (CDW deductible) by vehicle type.
- Sedan: If the vehicle is damaged in a covered incident, the renter pays no more than THB 10,000 per incident
- Pickup / SUV / 7-seat: The renter pays no more than THB 15,000 per incident
- If the assessed covered damage is below these limits, you pay the assessed damage amount rather than automatically paying THB 10,000 or THB 15,000.
- If you want to reduce your financial risk further, you can add SCDW to reduce the excess for covered damage to THB 0
Maximum renter liability THB 10,000
Maximum renter liability THB 15,000
Excess for covered damage THB 0
1. If the rental car is damaged, how much do you pay?
The rental rate includes CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) which limits the maximum amount you may have to pay when the rental vehicle is damaged in a covered accident.
- Sedan: The renter pays no more than THB 10,000 per incident
- 4-door pickup / SUV / 7-seat: The renter pays no more than THB 15,000 per incident
A small scratch does not mean you automatically pay THB 10,000 or THB 15,000
If the assessed covered damage is below the CDW limit, you pay the assessed damage amount, up to the maximum limit for that vehicle category.
It means one exterior body panel, for example one door, one bumper section, or one fender The actual damage amount depends on the type and depth of the scratch, dents, and whether repair or repainting is required.
Examples of how damage charges are calculated
| Example damage | Example repair amount | Example renter pays |
|---|---|---|
|
Scratch on 1 panel
Example: scratch on one door |
THB 3,000 | THB 3,000 |
|
Scratches on 2 panels
Example: front door + rear door |
THB 6,000 total | THB 6,000 |
|
Dent on 1 door
Repair and repainting required |
THB 4,500 | THB 4,500 |
|
Dented door + damaged bumper
Multiple panels damaged in the same incident |
THB 8,000 total | THB 8,000 |
|
Multiple panels damaged on a sedan
From the same incident |
THB 18,000 total |
Maximum THB 10,000
if all damage is covered under CDW |
Important note: The repair amounts above are examples to explain the calculation method They are not fixed repair rates. Actual damage costs depend on the vehicle model, affected parts, type and severity of damage, and the assessment for each case.
Easy rule to remember
- Damage below the CDW limit → pay the assessed damage amount
- Damage above the CDW limit → pay no more than the maximum CDW limit provided the damage is covered
2. SCDW — reduce the excess to THB 0
If you want to reduce your financial risk further, you may purchase SCDW to reduce the excess for accident damage that is covered by the protection terms to THB 0
THB 250 / day
SCDW coverage subject to rental terms
THB 350 / day
SCDW coverage subject to rental terms
How do CDW and SCDW differ in a real example?
Assume a sedan is involved in an accident and has Dented door + damaged bumper with total assessed repair costs of THB 18,000
Using the included CDW:
Maximum renter liability THB 10,000 if all damage is covered
With SCDW added:
The excess for covered damage THB 0
Important: SCDW does not mean you have zero responsibility in every situation. It reduces the excess to THB 0 only for damage that meets the coverage conditions. Exclusions and rental terms still apply.
3. Should you use the included CDW or add SCDW?
Suitable if you prefer the standard rental price and are comfortable accepting the maximum excess for the vehicle category.
Suitable if you want to reduce the risk of repair costs by reducing the excess for covered damage to THB 0.
4. Third-party liability insurance
In addition to protection for the rental vehicle, O Car Rent vehicles carry commercial-use motor insurance with the following main coverage limits.
| Coverage | Maximum limit |
|---|---|
| Third-party bodily injury or death | THB 500,000 / person |
| Third-party bodily injury or death per accident | THB 20,000,000 / accident |
| Third-party property damage | THB 1,000,000 / accident |
| Personal accident — driver / passengers | THB 50,000 / person |
| Medical expenses — driver / passengers | THB 50,000 / person |
| Driver bail bond | THB 500,000 / accident |
Actual coverage is subject to the policy for the rented vehicle, including the insurer's terms, limits and exclusions.
5. When CDW / SCDW may not apply
For clarity, these situations are divided into two groups.
A. Use of the vehicle in breach of the rental terms
The following may invalidate CDW / SCDW and may make the renter responsible for the actual damage in full.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Driving without a valid driving licence
- Allowing an unauthorised person to drive
- Grossly negligent or dangerous driving, racing, or speed testing
- Off-road driving or using the vehicle in an unauthorised area or manner
- Driving through floodwater or areas with a high risk of water damage
B. Certain types of damage may have additional conditions
The following may be excluded from CDW / SCDW or subject to specific additional conditions:
- Glass
- Tyres and wheels
- Underbody
- Interior
- Vehicle key
- Vehicle equipment and accessories
- Excessive cleaning charges
Important: Purchasing SCDW does not remove the restrictions or exclusions above. The renter must still comply with all rental terms.

8. Frequently asked questions about rental car insurance
Does the O Car Rent rental rate already include insurance?
Yes. The rental rate includes first-class insurance covering third-party liability and damage to the rental vehicle, with a per-incident excess (CDW deductible) by vehicle type, subject to the terms for the rented vehicle.
If the car only has a small scratch, do I always pay THB 10,000 or THB 15,000?
No. If the covered damage is assessed below the CDW limit, you pay the assessed damage amount, up to the maximum limit for that vehicle category.
How is a scratch on one panel charged?
If the damage is covered, the amount is assessed based on the type and value of the damage to that panel. We do not automatically charge THB 10,000 or THB 15,000.
If I buy SCDW, is the excess THB 0 in every situation?
No. SCDW reduces the excess to THB 0 only for accident damage that meets the coverage conditions. Exclusions and breaches of rental terms still apply.
Are tyres, glass, underbody or interior damage covered?
Damage to glass, tyres, wheels, underbody, interior and certain equipment may be excluded or subject to additional conditions. Please review the details before confirming your booking.
Is flood damage covered by insurance or SCDW?
Damage caused by driving through floodwater or water-risk areas may not be covered, and the renter may be responsible for the actual damage.
Should I add SCDW?
If you want to reduce the risk of paying for damage to the rental vehicle, SCDW may be suitable because it reduces the excess for covered damage to THB 0. All rental conditions still apply.
